Having experienced the healing power of nature myself, I want to share the joy even if you don't have a traditional garden. No matter how small or tiled-over your outdoor space, planting in containers can also be magical.
And by containers, I don't mean small seasonal pots you have to re-do every few months. I am talking about having a statement display that has something to enjoy through the seasons and keeps coming back every year.
Living in London, I have always gardened in different urban spaces, from a courtyard, a balcony to a roof terrace.
In search of better work-life balance and feeling passionate about greening up urban spaces, I moved from project management in MedTech to retrain in Garden Design at Capel Manor College, and in Landscape Construction Design at the London College of Garden Design, at Kew.
I currently offer planting design for containers on balconies, patios, courtyards and roof terraces as well as outdoor styling with garden furniture and accessories to create relaxing spaces.
Check out my Instagram or Facebook above for weekly inspiration.
Successional means you can have the feel of a flower bed, filled with varieties of beautiful plants that showcase their best in flower, colour or scent all through the season, which is particularly vital if you have a small space, so you are not left looking out onto a barren space over winter.
Ecological means I will choose the right plants for the right place. Matching suitable plants to the growing conditions of your space not only makes it easier for you to maintain, but also ensures they perform for you because they are happy in their home. This is particularly important on balconies which may be sun-scorched, or shaded from sun and rain on lower floors, whilst roof terraces are often very exposed to the elements.
Sustainable choices are made as much as possible, from buying local, to use of recycled materials and manufacturing methods in planters and troughs, peat-free compost and drought-tolerant perennial plants that come back year after year.
